The inaugural Hong Kong Strawberry Festival will be held from December 12th to 14th, showcasing at least 12 varieties of locally grown
strawberries. A legislator stated that the large temperature difference in Ta Kwu Ling makes it ideal for growing strawberries and
various fruits and vegetables. The event will allow participants to "pick and eat on the spot," and guided tours will introduce
strawberry varieties, the northern metropolitan area, and urban-rural integration. Phoenix Farm, spanning 200,000 square feet,
boasts over 10 varieties of strawberries, each with its own story. She explained that it's strawberry season, hence the event's focus,
but they also have corn, mustard greens, bananas, sugarcane, and cherry tomatoes. "Danshee" strawberries are more expensive in
supermarkets, but at the Ta Kwu Ling Farm, they're "more than half the price," and she believes they taste better. She noted that
standing in the strawberry field, you can smell the subtle strawberry aroma even with your eyes closed. She added that the farm
participates in the "Farm + Entertainment" program, hoping to help the public better understand local products.

Guangdong in China exports Fruit, Lychee, to United Arab Emirates
Posted by: Admin on 26th June 2025 08:42:34.
Comprehensive report from this newspaper] Guangdong Province exported 1,685 tons of lychees in May alone, with sales to countries including Singapore, Indonesia, Canada, Malaysia, etc. Dongguan lychees were exported in large quantities to the UAE for the first time.
From mid-May to July, lychees were put on the market in western Guangdong, the Pearl River Delta region and eastern Guangdong. Hu Guibing, chief scientist of the National Litchi and Longan Industry Technology System and dean of the College of Horticulture of South China Agricultural University, said that this year, Guangdong flowers bloomed early and had a high flowering rate, and the expected output was about 1.6 million tons.
Pre-cooling and packaging within one hour of picking
A refrigerated truck loaded with lychees drove from the cold storage to the airport on Monday, and the one ton of Dongguan lychees on the truck were sent to Dubai by air. Staff said that there are two types of lychees for export, namely Guiwei and Xianjinfeng, each type of lychees is about 500 kilograms. If lychees are stored in a cold storage for pre-cooling within one hour after picking, the shelf life can be extended by about one week. After pre-cooling, the lychees are then transported to the low-temperature packaging workshop for fine packaging and then sent to the airport, and then airlifted to Dubai. The whole transportation time is about 9 hours.
Huangpu Customs said that Dongguan belongs to the mid-late ripening lychee production area. At present, the planting area of lychee orchards registered with the customs in Dongguan City is 2,700 acres. From mid-to-late June, Dongguan lychees enter the peak sales season, and the export volume is expected to reach 50 tons this year.
